25th November

As many of you will know, since our last news update in July , the rescue has been very busy with re-homing animals and activities to raise money to continue our work. We have now re-homed nearly 150 animals and almost every one has settled in well and become part of its new family.

We have been very fortunate to have the help of Vikki, a dog trainer and Adam, a dog behaviourist. Most dogs who we take from the pound have issues of some kind and our aim is to try to ensure that when they go to their new homes they are well on the way to overcoming their problems. Vikki and Adam work with the dogs and our staff, with prospective new owners and also with the owners once the dogs have gone to the new homes, in order to make the transition from kennels to home environment as happy as possible for both animals and humans.

We had a very successful Open Day in August, Pub Quizzes every month, Summer Fair and several Jumble Sales, Street Collections, Sponsored walk up Snowdon and various one-off activities. Sadly, due to lack of funds, we recently had to reduce staff hours to 1 day each per week, so we are very grateful for the help of all our willing volunteers.

7th July 2011

We have now re-homed over 80 animals - lovely to think of them in new loving homes.

The two Pub Quiz events which have been held have been a great success and enjoyed by all.

During the summer we have a number of fund-raising events organised so please keep an eye on our events page - we need your support.

12th April 2011

We have been so successful re-homing animals that our fund-raising has been unable to keep pace with our re-homing. To give us a little time to replenish our funds we have decided that we need to reduce our intake of animals during the month of April. If anyone has ideas for fund-raising we would be very pleased to hear from you.

21st March 2011

We have now re-homed over 50 animals . They all seem to be doing well in their new homes. New owners and carers are encouraged to contact us if they have any problems and we will endeavour to help in any way we can.

Because we are re-homing animals at such a high rate we are beginning to drain our funds and need to hold as many fund-raising events as possible to try and replenish them. We have two new pages on this website - one with a list of events already organised and one with a database of lost and found dogs and cats.

If you feel able to help us with any of the events listed or you have other money-raising ideas we would love to hear from you.

Many thanks to everyone who has helped to make our project so successful.

We have now been operational for just over three months. We are very pleased with the success of our project so far because we have managed to find kind loving homes for thirty-three animals and today our manager Carol will be collecting another two dogs from the pound. Many of our ex-residents have been back to see us and we have had letters and photographs from their owners. Our staff have done a brilliant job and during the ‘big freeze’ they coped admirably with the problems of frozen pipes etc. Everyone managed to arrive in good time for work and continuity of care for the animals was maintained throughout. They are a super team and the committee are very grateful to them for their dedication.

The Rescue Centre is still a work in progress and improvements to the facilities are ongoing. We now have another seven kennels available and the cattery is close to completion. Phil, our treasurer, has done an amazing job in designing and building the cattery.

Don’t forget, you can follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter and, of course, add your own comments.

Please come and see us. You can be sure of a very warm and friendly welcome.

22nd October 2010

The most exciting day in the history of the Abandoned Animals Association - our dogs were brought to Little Pydew and made comfortable in their new surroundings, our own Rescue Centre.

It was lovely to see them making friends with those in the neighbouring kennels - nose to nose and tails wagging. A natural form of socialisation which is so important to dogs for which we are hoping to find permanent loving homes.

The kennels are looking lovely, bright and airy, and the high paddock fence is nearly finished so that all the dogs will have the opportunity to run free and learn to play with others. The staff spent some time getting to know their charges and the dogs began to get to know their carers.

Our latest news is, of course, the fact that after  twenty-four years of rescuing animals we have at last been able to purchase a property in which to establish our own kennels.

The last month has been extremely busy completing the purchase and preparing the animal accommodation to receive all our rescued animals.

Thanks to the great generosity of our members and the population of the North Wales area since the inauguration of the Abandoned Animals Association, we have managed to rescue and re-home hundreds of animals. Over the last few years we have had several large legacies which have enabled  us to purchase Little Pydew.

Now that we are in the process of establishing ourselves at Little Pydew we would be very grateful for any help you feel able to offer. Although we have made all our animals comfortable in the current accommodation we have great plans for future expansion so that we will be able to rescue many more animals of all species. There is a great deal of potential here at Little Pydew and we would be really grateful if you could come and visit us and make some suggestions as to how we should proceed. Obviously the committee has discussed plans for the future but the more input we have the better will be the final result.

So come and visit us. You can be sure of a very warm welcome.
