What to do if you lose or find a pet

Tracing a lost dog

If you should have the misfortune to lose your dog please take the following actions:-

  1. Ring the dog warden departments at all the local county council offices.
  2. Ring all the pounds maintained by all the local county councils.
  3. Ring all the rescue centres within a 50 mile radius.

By law your dog, even if he/she is microchipped, should have a disc attached to the collar giving your address and as many contact details as possible, so that if anyone finds him/her they will be able to contact you immediately without having to find someone with a scanner able to read the microchip.

These days the police do not have any responsibility for lost dogs but they will certainly give you the information to enable you to contact the above organisations.

If your dog is microchipped telephone the database and give them all the details.

Ring all the above organisations daily

For at least a month. Don’t give up!!
